The indoor environments at Stepping Stones are thoughtfully designed to be cosy, engaging, and stimulating without being overwhelming. Each room is intentionally arranged by our educators to create a welcoming space where children feel comfortable, safe, and inspired to learn.
Resources are placed at the children’s level, encouraging independence and self-directed play. Open-ended materials foster creativity, role-playing, problem-solving, and imaginative exploration. As children grow, they are actively involved in shaping their environment—choosing resources, displaying their artwork, and sharing family photos—to create a personalised and meaningful space. This approach nurtures a strong sense of belonging and respect for their surroundings while enhancing their learning experience.
Our outdoor environment is designed to inspire exploration, connection, and discovery. We provide a large, natural play space featuring open grassy areas, secluded reading nooks, flourishing gardens, and interactive sensory elements. Children can climb, build, dig, and create in our mud kitchen, sandpit, and undercover soft-fall areas—all carefully designed to support their physical and cognitive development.
Sustainability is a key focus of our outdoor space. We integrate worm farms, water tanks, and compost bins, allowing children to actively participate in eco-friendly practices. Our dedicated outdoor educator, Dallas, maintains the gardens and incorporates his passion for permaculture into daily learning experiences. By working alongside Dallas, children gain hands-on experience in sustainability, gardening, and caring for the environment.
A unique feature of Stepping Stones, the studio is a dedicated learning space located between our two preschool rooms. Designed for in-depth exploration, the studio hosts small groups of children who engage in research-based learning over ten weeks.
These groups are carefully curated, bringing together children of mixed ages, genders, and skill sets to foster collaboration and shared discovery. Guided by our studio educator, children delve into interest-based projects, developing their knowledge through hands-on experiences, discussions, and creative expression. Their learning journey is documented in floorbooks—daily diaries capturing their ideas, theories, and progress.
At Stepping Stones, our learning environment is more than just a space—it is a foundation for curiosity, creativity, and meaningful experiences that support each child’s growth and development.
Learning through play with a strong emphasis on outdoor and nature-based experiences.
